Make a Briefcase - Photoshop tutorial

briefcase100x100In this tutorial I will show you how to create a nice briefcase with Photoshop. The process is rather simple and illustrated by pictures, step by step.

Step 1:

Let’s start out by creating a new file. I used a 400×400 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with #3C342D color shade. In a new layer draw a brown rounded rectangle with a small curve, #AD651B color shade and 109px x 71px dimensions.

Step 2:

Under Layer Style (Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Inner Glow, Satin and Gradient Overlay blending options to the rounded rectangle layer.

+ Satin:

+ Gradient Overlay:

Now our "briefcase" will look like this:

Step 3:

Create a new layer then draw a thin black rectangle with 109px x 6px dimensions positioned as shown below (you can use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select and fill it with black)

Step 4:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Glow and Gradient Overlay blending options to the black rectangle layer. Then set the layer's blending mode to Lighten.

The briefcase now looks better:

Step 5:

In a new layer draw a small rounded rectangle with a long corner curves, #CF6500 color shade and 60px x 36px dimensions. Then go to Select > Load Selection, use the default settings which should add a marquee selection around the rounded rectangle. Now go back to Select > Modify and apply a Contract Selection using 6 pixels and cut out the new selection. Finish it off by cutting the bottom half of the cut out rounded rectangle for the handle of the suitcase.

Step 6:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Inner Glow and Gradient Overlay blending options to the handle shape layer.

Step 8:

In a new layer draw an even smaller darker gray circle with #636363 color shade inside the first small circle. Then use the Horizontal Type Tool with a small cursive font and #AD7C56 color shade to type your brand name just below the button design.

Step 9:
